Synopsis
Through archival footage, personal testimonies, animations, and the voice of Lino Musella, Samir weaves together personal history and collective memory to tell the story of millions of Italians — farmers, laborers, and workers — who left their homeland in search of a better future, facing hardship, discrimination, and isolation.
At the time, they were part of the working class — a collective, united by solidarity and a vision for social change. Today, that term has faded from common language, replaced by a new label: “foreigners” — fragmented, marginalized figures, often without rights.
The documentary explores powerful themes such as xenophobia, the dignity of labor, and the search for identity in a changing world. It invites us to reflect on the paradox of an Italy that has shifted from a country of emigration to one of immigration — yet still struggles to recognize its own history in those who arrive today.
